Catawba County Schools is excited to introduce the CCS Spark Awards, a new monthly recognition program celebrating employees who go above and beyond to make a meaningful difference for students, families, coworkers, or our community.Parents, students, and employees may nominate any CCS employee by sharing a specific example of how that individual has inspired others, demonstrated compassion, strengthened relationships, or provided exceptional service.
Five Spark Award recipients will be selected each month and recognized at a Board of Education meeting.

Mechanical Minds Robotics Opportunity for High School Students
Want to build something awesome, travel, compete, and be a part of a team that feels more like family? Join Mechanical Minds FRC Team 6639! You’ll get hands-on experience designing, building, programming, machining, creating, and competing with a full-size robot while working alongside mentors and making friends from across Catawba County. And robotics is only part of it. There are opportunities in business, marketing, photography, social media, strategy, leadership, and community outreach, too. No experience is needed. We’ll teach you. FIRST Robotics gives students real-world skills that can help with college and future careers, and 92% of FRC students report improving their problem-solving skills. Free National Hunting & Fishing Day Event for Kids
The Catawba Valley Wildlife Club invites families to its annual National Hunting & Fishing Day Open House on Saturday, September 19, from 9 a.m.–2:30 p.m. at Wildlife Acres.Children can enjoy free activities, including hayrides, fishing rod casting, the money stack and more. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m.–2 p.m., with a free hamburger or hot dog, chips and a drink for children ages 18 and younger. Door prize drawings will also be held from 11 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
All children’s activities and lunches for ages 18 and younger are free!
Directions to the Club: From Hickory, go South on Hwy 127 through Mountain View to Hwy 10. Turn right (west), and go approximately 4.5 miles to Lynn Mt. Rd. Turn right and go 2.5 miles on Lynn Mt. Rd. Look for Catawba Valley Wildlife sign and turn right into the driveway and follow to the clubhouse. From Newton: go west approximately 14.5 miles on Hwy 10 to Lynn Nt. Rd. and follow the directions above.

Night Crawl 5K – October 17
Join the Catawba Valley Association of Realtors for the Night Crawl 5K on Saturday, October 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Newton Recreation Center, 23 S. Brady Ave. Registration is $30 through September 30 and $35 afterward. Students receive $5 off!
Proceeds benefit The Corner Table’s Backpack Program, which provides weekend meals for local children facing hunger.
